The smoke removal module MDU-1 is used to control the electromechanical drive with the return spring which is fixed to the axle of the smoke removal valve or fire retarding valve.

You can connect the following equipment to the module:
- electromechanical drive with the return spring;
- a button for manual valve switch into the protective position.
The body of the smoke removal module is made of plastic. On the front side of the module there are LEDs which indicate the working mode. The module also controls the opening of its body and sends a signal to the control panel. On the module’s board terminal blocks are installed for connecting the signaling ling, electromechanical drive with the return spring, the button for the manual switch and a power supply unit which is connected to the electromechanical drive through the relay of the smoke removal module.
The module exchanges the information with the control panel through the two-wired signaling line. It transmits the information about its status and about the status of the electromechanical drive to the control panel. In automatic mode the module receives signals to open or close valve from the control panel. In manual mode you can switch the valve by pressing a button connected to the module.
You can configure the MDU-1 using the programmer PKU-1 or addressable fire alarm control panel “Rubezh-2AM”.
You can set the following parameters of the module:
- address;
- activation timeout;
- tripping timeout;
- disconnection timeout.
The address of the module consists of two parts: the number of the signaling line and the number of the module in this signaling line.
Activation timeout is a period of time the spring switches the valve into the protective position. Maximum interval is 255 seconds.
Tripping timeout is a period of time the drive switches the valve into normal position. Maximum interval is 255 seconds.
During the module installation you can switch the valve by pressing buttons “NORM” and “PROTECT” which are placed on the board of the module.
Disconnection timeout is a period of time after the connection between the module and the control panel has been lost and the spring switches the valve to the protective position automatically.
Construction and action of the addressable smoke removal module
 | MDU-1 links up the electromechanical drive and a power supply unit by means of the integral relay and controls the position of the valve by the limit stops which are placed at the electromechanical drive. When the power is on the valve switches to the normal position (fire retarding valve is open, smoke removal valve is closed) and stays in this position. At the same time the spring is led up. When the “Fire” signal is received MDU-1 unlocks the relay and stops the feeding of the drive. The spring switches the valve to the protective position. |
See the picture No.1 for connecting the electromechanical drives with the return spring BELIMO and POLAR BEAR to the MDU-1. The position of the limit stops S corresponds to the protective position of the valve trap.

In case of need to control the circuit continuity delete the resistors R’ on the board and install them at the places R in immediate proximity to the valve limit stops S1, S2 of the drive and a button of manual switch. If you do not connect the button of manual switch do not delete the resistor R’ which corresponds to this button. The resistance of the resistors for controlling the circuit continuity is 680 Ohm.
ATTENTION! DO NOT INSTALL BOTH RESISTORS R’ AND R AT THE SAME TIME!
The electromechanical drive contacts’ marking can differ from the picture No.1 depending on the producer.
